Fabric softener
A fabric softener is a chemical solution added to the wash cycle of laundry to reduce static cling and make clothes softer and more comfortable to wear. It works by coating the fibers of the clothing with a thin layer of lubricant that helps to prevent the build-up of static electricity, making it easier to separate the clothes after washing. Fabric softener also contains fragrances that leave a pleasant scent on the clothes. Some fabric softeners can also be used in the dryer, providing additional benefits like reducing wrinkles and extending the life of the clothing by reducing friction. However, fabric softeners can sometimes cause skin irritation or allergic reactions, so it is important to choose a product that is safe for your skin type.
Types of softener
1. Anionic Softener widely used in legacy under-ware making for water adsorbing purposed.
2.Cationic Softener broadly uses in Textiles Finishing as well as home cares diary laundry, commonly known as
Fatty amine salt (Fatty acid + TEA) commonly seeing Flake for legacy textiles
- DM2HT
- EQ. TEQ
- DEQ
3.Silicone Type Softener
4.Alumino Silicone
Quarternized organo silane
3. Non-ionic Softener very limited use in synthetic textile processing to reduce static charge, where drape ability is not required.
History of EsterQuats
Esterquats primarily based on Triethanolamine (TEA) were patented for use as fabric softener. Esterification of TEA with 2 identical fatty acid fives a thermodymically controlled statistical distribution of mono, di and tri-esters, which commercially are quaternized with Dimethyl Sulphate (DMS). Intended to replace Hydrogenated tallowdimethyl ammonium Chloride (DM2HT)
